Writing Samples

Having studied both History and English, I’ve adopted a writing philosophy that strives to blend the practical logic of the historian with the poetic flow of the literary scholar through clear and concise language.

Professional Samples

Joe Fig Info Packet – This is an information packet I wrote and designed at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. It was sent to all College faculty to introduce them to the exhibition and give them ideas about how to integrate the exhibition into their lesson plans.

Bakalar and Paine Gallery Guide – This is a gallery guide to the above exhibition, written for the general visitor.

Artifact Research Report – I researched an artifact in the Spurlock Museum’s Canelos Quichua collection and wrote a paper to add to the research archives. This is an excerpt.

Bunraku Article – I wrote this article for the Spurlock Museum News page.

Scholarly Samples

Discourses of Knowledge and Power in Early Monster Movies – An excerpt from a research paper I wrote for my History and film senior thesis class at the University of Illinois.

German Ethnicity – An excerpt from a research paper I wrote for a senior honors project on the persecution of German-Americans during World War I and the resilience of the group’s ethnic identity in Southern Illinois.

The Big Sleep to Watchmen – An excerpt from a literary theory paper I wrote for a Detective Fiction class as an undergraduate.
